There is a plethora of differing information regarding which stones you should choose, depending on belief and culture, from Hinduism, Chinese astrology, Western horoscope, stones of anniversary, stones for the day of the week and so much more. It can be overwhelming and frustrating for a beginner to choose a stone. What I often say based on my own experience, take your time and let the stone call you based on your intuition, choose a stone that will make you feel like you want to wear it everyday instead of blindly listening to some one else's advise of what you should own (unless you don't trust your own intuition or feel more at ease accepting that other person's suggestion).
Nevertheless, here's some reference for those keen to know your birth and zodiac stones:

And then there's that Feng Shui Master, Tarot Reader, Numerologist. Sorry, don't have much more information on these belief systems as it requires you to make a personal appointment with the respective belief of choice to get a reading done. Which mind you, probably requires a new reading every year as far as I know.
I've also received questions from individuals regarding health and which crystals would help their condition/s including:
Trying to get pregnant
Alleviating skin conditions like acne and psoriasis
Helping with dementia
Eliminating gastritis and stomach ulcers
and many more...
I must state here, I would suggest getting medical advise from an actual doctor of science rather than a crystal seller who purports that spending USD1000 on his Amber jewelry would heal your psoriasis for instance. I do provide some information on the metaphysical aspects as well as factual information regarding stones (e.g. their mineral composition) because I think it's interesting to know. However, I do insist that the unproven claims should be taken with a pinch of salt as it is very subjective and dependent on your own beliefs.
So, In my honest opinion, I use my own intuition to make the decisions that feel right for me on how I personally choose my stones. I choose based on what I like. You can too, so ultimately it's your choice at the end of the day.
